OverviewWe – Sina (21), Lena (21) and Marvin (20) – have started our training as industrial management assistants at Bosch Rexroth in Lohr. We expect to complete our apprenticeship in three years.
The training began with a three-week onboarding period, during which we were given important information about the company and our training. In good old tradition, we also made a wooden bowl, which serves as a nice reminder of the time and made a welcome change from the varied lectures.
The experience week spent at Volkersberg provided an excellent opportunity to get to know each other better as well as find out more about our jobs, giving us a fantastic insight into the different departments.
Of course, we still had to hit the books. In the first year, we attended the vocational school in Lohr am Main twice a week, and then once a week in the second and third years. This is where we learned the topics relevant for the intermediate and final exams in job-related subjects.
One of the main highlights was the internship in Germany or abroad. We were given the opportunity to apply for a company-wide departmental assignment. Through the Erasmus program, we were able to go to Birmingham in England for four weeks. Marvin and Lena also worked for a short period at another site in Germany. Sina was able to take part in Didacta (education fair) in Stuttgart. We all had an amazing time and gained so much experience.
Another extra training measure is the “social week”, during which the trainees get involved with various facilities for people with mental and physical disabilities. For many of us, it was the first time we had had contact with people with disabilities and therefore gave us many new experiences. We also took over tutoring the new trainees to pass on our knowledge to them.
Courses on subjects such as presentation techniques, intercultural skills, as well as a hydraulics and a first aid course completed our training. Our trainers allow us to prepare for the intermediate and final exams together.
